Delete your account
You can do this yourself, from inside the app, in under a minute.
In the app
Accounts are deleted from inside the app. You cannot delete your account on this website.
- Open Nalanda and tap your profile photo, top left.
- Go to Configurations.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm.
Deletion takes effect immediately. You do not need to email us, and we will not ask you why.
If you no longer have the app installed
Email privacy@nalandaguru.com from the address on your account, asking us to delete it. We will confirm within 45 days, and normally within a few days.
We may need to verify that you are the account holder before we delete anything — usually just by replying to the email address on file.
What deletion removes
Deleting your account removes:
- your profile, username, display name, and profile photo
- your notes and highlights, including any you made public
- your playlists and folders
- your Guru chat history and the log of Guru questions you asked
- your reading and usage events
- the recommendation, theme, and taste records we derived from your activity
- who you follow and who follows you
- your push notification tokens and device keys
What survives deletion
We would rather tell you this plainly than let you discover it later.
- A de-identified archive, kept indefinitely. We copy your reading activity, recommendation and taste records, and settings into an archive under a new random identifier, with written text removed and nothing linking it back to you, so we can understand and prevent abuse. It cannot be used to restore your account. Your notes are never copied into it.
- The shared Guru question cache. A copy of question text, with no link to any account, stays in a cache shared across users. See Section 4 of our Privacy Policy.
- Your free Guru allowance record — a one-way hash of your email address and how many free questions were used, so deleting and re-creating an account does not reset it.
- Billing and tax records, held by our payment processor for as long as tax law requires.
- Ban records, if your account was restricted for abuse, so it cannot simply be recreated.
If you have a paid subscription
Deleting your account cancels your subscription, and you will not be charged again. Time remaining on a period you have already paid for is not refunded, so you may prefer to cancel first (tap your profile photo, then Subscription, then Manage subscription) and delete your account when the period ends. If you are charged after deleting your account, email support@nalandaguru.com and we will refund that charge in full.
Things you can do instead
If deletion is more than you wanted:
- Turn off Personalization in Configurations, and the app stops recording your reading activity. Note that this does not stop us logging your Guru questions — see our Privacy Policy.
- Make your profile private, or make individual notes and playlists private.
- Delete individual items — any note, playlist, or Guru chat can be deleted on its own.
- Turn off notifications in Configurations or in your device settings.
